Weekly Blog: 15th to 19th June 2026
This week our focus has been on Space. Activities we have enjoyed include, alongside other child initiated activities, have been: On Monday we played with our rocket and space story stones on our tuff tray. We made planet pictures and learnt about the planets in our solar system. We looked at the initial letter sounds of the planets, ordered space pictures from small to big and read space stories. On Tuesday we leant about how rockets go into space, watched a rocket launch and a video of how an astronaut brushes his teeth in space. We played a rhyming rockets game in phonics and made rocket suncatchers. We also enjoyed space movement as our active game. On Wednesday we Learnt about the moon and meteorites and made space rocks out of tin foil. The children made aliens as their art activity and the children made up a space story. They also practised writing their name or enjoying mark making with crayons and washed over it with watery paint to make a space name. We also enjoyed maths games, such as space themed subitising numbers 1-5. The story the children made up as a group was: Once upon a time there were stars in space. There was a dinosaur space alien, it had ten eyes. There were planets in space, they were floating around. Five made a rocket to space, blast off!! There were five astronauts called Henry, Jimmy, Ollie, Booey and Bobby. They floated around and bounced up and down. Henry walked on the moon. Jimmy went to Neptune, Ollie went to the sun. Booey and Bobby went to see the dinosaur alien. Then it was time to get back on the rocket to back home to Jupiter. They all got hot feet. It was soon bedtime after a busy day, they slept on the hot planet. The End. On Thursday we learnt all about stars, making stars, counting stars and making star patterns. The children also designed a space ship, enjoyed phonics and math games and role played going to space outside. On Friday we learnt the planet song. We made more space art and practised how we would move in space. We played a rhyming rocket matching game and counted aliens. Most activities are available throughout the weeks for all of the children to enjoy. We also throughout the week:
